Edward Green has recently taken the
opportunity to evolve a further range of superlative shoes. In line with
our company aim which seeks to produce exceptional Goodyear welted
shoes, we have continued to improve our regular range wherever possible,
indeed incorporating features of the original Top Drawer range.
The new Top Drawer service offers the possibility to personalize
your Edward Green shoes with finishes and designs detailing, choosing
one of the lasts from Edward Green’s renowned, good looking and well
fitting range – although these too can be modified if just a little
tweak will help.
After clicking and closing the shoes are lasted by a team of four
craftsmen who each give their attention to a particular part of the
shoe, for example, hand drafting the waist. The level of skills of our
craftsmen and women mean that shoes destined to become Top Drawer are
made alongside our regular production, but like the larva of a queen bee
in the hive, these shoes receive extra attention.
In addition to the wood shank, a leather fiddle is shaped and
positioned for each individual pair. After stitching the sole to the
welt and subsequently shaping by hand, this fiddle is instrumental in
enhancing the exceptionally refined Top Drawer waist. Personal initials
can be inscribed here.
The heel is built as usual but the profile is lightly shaped,
closer to the upper and is also shaped around the fiddle to accommodate
the waist.
The sole edge is spade shaped and jointed where it abuts the
heel.As usual, all edges are refined and polished but Top Drawer shoes
receive additional cosseting, as they do in the polishing room.
Top Drawer shoes are further distinguished inside with a
handwritten sock and distinctive number. A pair of trees is provided,
shaped especially for the chosen last.
